Happy Friday The 13th, everyone!
I hope you manage to avoid any major calamities today.
As promised, I’m back to tell you the full story of what happened with Miss Nellie, the dog that my wife and I adopted in the Fall of 2022. Here’s the story…
November 6th, 2022 was a sad day for me and Kate. After a month or so of unsuccessfully integrating Nellie into our household and getting her to safely interact with our two cats (you can read about that HERE), we came to the heartbreaking conclusion that we couldn’t keep her. We contacted the adoption agency that we got her from and they found a temporary foster home for her, a place with an established foster family that could take care of her until something more permanent could be arranged.
We took Nellie to meet the new family and their pets, and the minute she met their dog and started running around their big back yard, we knew that she was in a better place. She even seemed to interact well with their cat, which stunned us after we had put so much effort into that area in our own home. But it was clear that their cat was simply used to being around a high energy dog, unlike our cats.
We spent about an hour or so with the foster family and felt comfortable enough to leave her with them. But let me tell you… it wasn’t easy. We’d fallen in love with Nellie, despite the troubles we’d had getting her to settle in with us. She is a beautiful, loving dog, and it was hard to walk away from her.
But…
There’s a happy ending to the story.
Nellie’s temporary family had what in pet adoption lingo is called a “foster fail.” In simple terms: they fell in love with her and decided to keep her! Kate and I were not at all surprised, and it was a consolation knowing that we had even a small hand in getting her to her forever home (I’m choking up just typing this). We found out via the family’s Instagram account, which featured pictures of a happy Nellie in her new permanent residence.
We’ll miss you, Miss Nellie. But you’re home now.
It’s good to be back posting new pages of THE MIGHTY YOOBAI and THE PATCHWORK GIRL OF OZ. I appreciate everyone who has read the comics and subscribed to this newsletter. Thanks!
I’m excited to get to the next parts of each story and introduce some new characters.
Here are some designs I’ve recently worked up for future chapters of THE PATCHWORK GIRL OF OZ. Some of these characters with likely be familiar to Oz fans. Can you name them? Comment below if you can!
These were drawn and colored in Procreate on the iPad Pro, as usual.
Thanks for reading and I’ll see you next Wednesday with some new pages!
