Am I An Imposter? 🤔
Imposter Syndrome, AI, and Bucket Lists
I know, I know—I said I was going to be back with new comics. Sorry about that! The break from posting new pages of THE MIGHTY YOOBAI and THE PATCHWORK GIRL OF OZ has taken longer than I thought it would, and here's why…
Have you heard of Impostor Syndrome? It's the cloud of doubt that all creative people face off against, and you usually never really win the battle. It's a real villain - Impostor Syndrome is wicked, deceptive, tough, and impossible to kill.
It's strange, but I've been struggling with imposter syndrome regarding my artwork for most of my life. It didn't bother me as a child or in my 20s and 30s, probably because I was too naive to recognize it. However, lately, it has become a significant issue that feels crippling at times.
Interestingly enough, the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) in the art world is starting to change how I perceive my imposter syndrome. It seems like AI is diluting its intensity, making it less overwhelming than before.
The reason behind this change lies in those who use AI apps (that only work by “scraping” existing art images from the internet) to create new imagery by merely typing prompts and claiming their input as an act of creation. To me, these individuals appear more like real imposters than genuine artists. Their approach resembles someone playing the video game GarageBand and calling themselves a guitarist when that's hardly the case. Oddly enough, they don’t seem to suffer from Imposter Syndrome at all! Strange, that.
As more imposters emerge daily using AI technology as their creative crutch, it surprisingly makes me feel less like an imposter myself within the realm of true artistic expression.
So I’ve decided to ignore the villain that is Imposter Syndrome and push forward!
That said… I’ll start posting new comic pages again on July 26th. I’m working to get ahead on pages so I have a good buffer.

Akira Poster Homages
New art!
I’ve been a fan of the film AKIRA since I first saw it in an art-house cinema in 1989.
Over the years, homages to the film’s famous movie poster have become a bit of a thing, and I’ve made a few. I recently knocked out homage pieces for each of the comic projects I’m working on. I hope ya’ dig!
Here’s the original poster:
Hey Kids… Comics!
My friend (and one of the nicest guys in the biz) Mike Maihack has a new book out: Spider-Man: Animals Assemble! His original graphic novel series Cleopatra In Space is also awesome, by the way. Pick up both if you’re looking for some good all-ages comics to read.
Subscribe now so you don’t miss an issue of ESCAPE With Otis Frampton!
In the meantime, tell your friends!
